Did you ever feel like you have been looking for a job forever, only to watch friends and colleagues seem to get jobs with ease?
Well I have got to tell you, you are not alone. While I do know people who have been lucky, and jobs have come to them, I know many more who were keeping an eye out for opportunities for over a year. Moreover, the people who are getting jobs are the ones who are sending targeted resumes, have been asking for job referrals and have been constantly on the lookout for new opportunities.
It’s not unusual for soon-to-be former coworkers to say “oh, I wasn’t looking…someone reached out to me,” whether or not it was true. This is a safer thing to say, because then they don’t have to talk about the time they left early for that ‘doctor’s’ appointment or to met their ‘cousin’ for lunch.
So if you are feeling stuck, and thinking you are the only one out there who hasn’t found a job, I am telling you, you are not alone! Almost everyone goes through these struggles. They are frustrating and they are tough, and there are tons of other people out there going through the same challenges.
The big thing is that you can’t let your fears and frustrations hold you back from taking action. Be proud of what you have done so far to look for a job, and take more steps to get that new opportunity. It’s a lot of work to get a new job, but that doesn’t mean it’s unachievable. It just means you need to keep pounding the payment, stepping it up and probably eight other cliches that are also true.
We here at JobSparker are here and there is a whole community of people out there in the same position. If you are having a tough day, or a tough week, just know that you are not alone.
