It is just about the time of year when even the most goal-oriented person gets sidetracked. You are about to be pulled in more directions than an octopus has tentacles as you try to balance holidays, parties, and gifting in addition to your normal day-to-day. While it may be “the most wonderful time of the year,” it is also likely the most distracting.
It doesn’t have to be that way. You can have your fun and still work towards finding that next job. For this is the perfect time to socialize your way to a new opportunity. This is the season when your friends, family and office are all having parties, which means it’s the perfect time to catch up with old friends and make some new connections.
Say yes to all the gatherings, parties and local festivals. Take the time to give back and volunteer. Get yourself out of the office and party with others. While you are socializing, mention your New Year’s resolution: “My goal is to find a new _____ opportunity, by the end of January. If you have any ideas or connections, let me know!”
Don’t forget to keep track of everything you are doing! When New Year’s Day rolls around, instead of thinking about making up for the past two months, you will be able to congratulate yourself for getting that much closer to a new job!
